3. We owe the Egyptians for paper who at around 3000bc had gradually developed a method of making paper. We owe a big thank you to the Egyptians for the invention of paper who, at around 3000BC developed a technique of making papyrus paper. The steps to make Papyrus were : 1.Cut down the stems of a papyrus plant and cut them into thin strips. 2. Have someone lay these strips into a frame. 3. Press the strips under heavy weights to squeeze out water and squash layers together. 4. When the papyrus is dry rub the surface with a stone to make it smooth for writing on. Ink was made by mixing water with soot, charcoal or coloured minerals. Papyrus was made to be written on or have anything associated with communication or recording things displayed on it. This invention is still used today but it has now changed slightly and is now commonly referred to as paper and trees are now used in the process.
