2 Dickinson ISD is an extremely fast-growing school district. In the past 10 years, Dickinson ISD has grown by 4,000 students. The district is projected to surpass 11,000 students at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. 2005-2006 6,871students 2015-2016 10,900 students DICKINSON ISD BOND 2016 Nearly 11,000 Students and Continuing to Grow

3 Dickinson ISD Boundaries South Gulf Greyhound Dog Track on both sides of the freeway, including the Lago Mar subdivision. East Galveston Bay including the communities of Bacliff and San Leon. North Portions of Tuscan Lakes on the north and south sides of Highway 96. West Cemetery Road and including all the new communities in the Bay Colony and Calder Road area. Dickinson ISD covers 61 square miles. The district is much larger than the City of Dickinson. Dickinson ISD is the second largest school district in Galveston County. DICKINSON ISD BOND 2016

6 Capacity2015-20162018-2019 McAdams Junior High 1,4001,5561,700 Junior High School Capacity Dickinson ISD currently has only one junior high school campus serving all students in grades 7-8. McAdams Junior High is approximately 150 students over capacity. McAdams Junior High is estimated to have 300 students over capacity by the time a new junior high could open in August 2018 if the bond is approved.

7 DICKINSON ISD BOND 2016 Bond Accomplishments Dickinson ISD voters have been very supportive of the district over the past few years by approving bond issues to build new facilities and renovate existing campuses and support departments to accommodate the district’s growing student enrollment. 2007 Bond - $107.5 million2014 Bond - $56 million

Little, district-wide technology upgrades, new furniture and equipment for all new facilities

11 DICKINSON ISD BOND 2016 2014 Bond - $56 million Construction of the Lobit Education Village, including Louis G. Lobit Elementary and Elva C. Lobit Middle School. The Lobit Education Village is a new concept for Dickinson ISD. It provides cost savings by sharing some common spaces such as the cafeteria and kitchen, library and mechanical systems. There is also many advantages academically as the two school work together to provide a seamless transition from elementary to middle school.

14 2016 Bond - $70 million The Dickinson Independent School District Board of Trustees has unanimously called for a $70 million district bond election. The proposal calls for the construction of the district’s second junior high school to serve students in grades 7-8. It will be located on property the district currently owns on Strom Road. 15 NO TAX RATE INCREASE If approved by voters, the 2016 Bond will NOT increase the current tax rate of $1.54.

18 Proud traditions, exciting future  One of only 130 school districts in nation and 22 in Texas to earn recognition on the College Board’s Gaston Caperton Opportunity Honor Roll for creating opportunities for students from underrepresented groups.  Opening of the Dickinson ISD STEM Academy in August 2016.  Dickinson High School saw an eight percent increase in the number of students earning a passing or higher score on Advanced Placement tests.  Dickinson ISD AVID Program providing college and career readiness opportunities for secondary level students.  Dickinson High School varsity football team named Regional Champions for the past two years.  Dickinson High School varsity boys basketball team earns first-ever District Championship in February 2016.  Dickinson High School Powerlifting Team named State Champions in March 2014.  Dickinson High School Marching Band placed 18 th among over 400 bands from across Texas at the last UIL 6A State Marching Contest.  Food and Nutrition Department earns national recognition for SMART Lunch Program and implementation of new packaging system at Dickinson High School.
