2 20010-2011 District Highlights A Board election to fill Places 5, 6 and 7 will be held on May 14. These seats are currently held by Jesse Rodríguez, Leon Leal and Jorge Rodríguez. Early voting begins on May 2 at the Colleyville City Hall and the Grapevine Community Activities Center through May 10. Board Election set for Saturday, May 14

3 2010-2011 District Highlights GCISD’s proposed bond program in the amount of $124.5 million will be on the May election ballot, after the Board of Trustees, at the Feb. 28 meeting, unanimously approved an Order Calling for a Bond Election. The Board also approved the LEAD 2021 Strategic Plan as the District’s new long range planning structure designed to plan the future of the District for the next 10 years. 4 2010-2011 District Highlights The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, at its 53 rd Annual Community Awards Banquet, honored Grapevine-Colleyville ISD with the 2010 Member of the Year Award. Presented to Superintendent Dr. Robin Ryan, the award recognizes the District for its role in the Grapevine Christmas Parade and Leadership Grapevine, as well as its continued work with the business community to find ways to improve student instruction through cooperative programs. Grapevine Chamber names GCISD “Member of the Year”

5 2010-2011 District Highlights Five schools were previously named by the National Center for Educational Achievement as 2010 Higher Performing Schools in the areas of reading, mathematics and science. Three additional schools have been added to the list as higher performing in the areas of writing and/or social studies. Those schools are: Bransford Elementary in Writing Colleyville Middle in Social Studies O.C. Taylor Elementary in Writing Schools added to “Higher Performing” list

6 2010-2011 District Highlights Two GCISD schools have received Texas PTA Awards given to recognize participation in the advancement of the arts through education and enrichment activities. Grapevine High School received an Arts in Education Bronze Award for the SAC Lunch Music series which features performing artists during student lunch breaks. O.C. Taylor Elementary received an Arts in Education Silver Award for several programs including the Zentangles after-school art workshop and a Texas History folksinger program. Two GCISD schools earn recognition

7 2010-2011 District Highlights All GCISD campuses are making plans to celebrate students and their educational successes during Texas Public Schools Week, March 7-11. Activities will include open houses, breakfast and/or lunch events, performances, and displays. Check with individual campuses for a complete listing. District planning for 2011 Texas Public Schools Week

8 2010-2011 District Highlights Art work from students throughout GCISD will be on display during the District’s annual art show at the Professional Development and Education Center (PDEC) March 7-10. The art show will feature a variety of art types from students of all grade levels and will be open for viewing Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Professional Development and Education Center is located at 5800 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034. Student art goes on display in March

9 2010-2011 District Highlights Global Extravaganza features variety of cultural, ethnic activities for community GCISD’s Diversity Advisory Council will host the annual Global Extravaganza on Tuesday, March 29, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Grapevine High School, 3223 Mustang Drive, Grapevine. This free community-wide event will feature a variety of ethnic foods for purchase, cultural performances, and exhibit booths from many world traditions and heritages. The Global Extravaganza is the capstone event to the Council’s new Diversity Week, March 21-25.

10 2010 - 2011 District Highlights Important dates in the student calendar include: March 14-18—District Spring Break April 22—Bad Weather Makeup Day (school in session) May 30—Memorial Day Holiday June 3—Bad Weather Makeup Day (school in session)but will be the early release date. June 2 will be a full day. June 4—Class of 2011 Graduation, Dallas Convention Center GHS—2 p.m. CHHS—7:30 p.m. Upcoming dates to note
