1 Plant Project By: Jill

2 How will an adjusted amount of Carbon Dioxide effect a plants growth? If my experiment works then people might be able to go live in space, and not make Earth so crowded. Instead of cutting down trees and using it for houses. In space they can use rocks or what ever they find on the planet.

3 Research I already know that for a plant to grow it needs to do something called Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process where a plant uses water, sunlight, and Carbon Dioxide to create sugar. Sugar is what the plant eats, and it produces oxygen.

4 Hypothesis I think that my plant will not survive, because a plant needs Carbon Dioxide to make food for it’s self. If it doesn't have enough Carbon Dioxide to do Photosynthesis. Then how will it survive?

5 Materials :  2 Marigold sprouts  Jar  Ruler  Water (in a spray bottle) Procedure: Now that you have all of those items we can begin the experiment. 1)After you have grown all of your Marigold sprouts, then you can transfer one of them to a jar with all-purpose potting soil. I called this one plant B. 2) Plant A is the one that is growing normally. I left this one out in the sun and watered daily. 3)This step is how to care for plant B. I have created a schedule on how to that care of it.

6 Schedule: This is the schedule that I followed for 10 days Monday- Water plants until the soil is damp. Then, let the plant get Carbon Dioxide, do this at these specific times: 12:00 pm and at 2:30 pm. Do not water the plants every time you let it get Carbon Dioxide. Tuesday- Water plants until soil is damp. Then let the plant get Carbon Dioxide, do this at these specific times: 12:00 pm and at 2:30 pm. Do not water the plants every time you let it get Carbon Dioxide. Wednesday- Water plants until soil is damp. Then let the plant get Carbon Dioxide, do this at these specific times: 12:00 pm and at 2:30 pm. Do not water the plants every time you let it get Carbon Dioxide. Thursday- Water plants until soil is damp. Then let the plant get Carbon Dioxide, do this at these specific times: 12:00 pm and at 2:30 pm. Do not water the plants every time you let it get Carbon Dioxide. Friday- Water the plants a little more than usual, Then let the plant get Carbon Dioxide, do this at these specific times: 12:00 pm and at 2:30 pm (When you let it get Carbon Dioxide leave it open for 30 min. On the weekend I didn’t treat your plant or collect data. Don’t count Saturday and Sunday as days (skip Saturday and Sunday).

7 Data Control-Plant A was the one with no treatment and was growing really well. Treatment-- This one was Plant B and I adjusted the amount of Carbon Dioxide it got. It grew fine for 5 days then it died.

8 Conclusion My experiment was successful for 5 days, and then it died. My plant was also making its own water cycle inside the jar and when I open the jar it was humid. Luckily for me there was another sprout in my jar, but it died the next day. I learned that I should have given it more Carbon Dioxide. Day 5 was a Friday and I wasn’t able to water it. On Monday the leaves and stem were all shrived up and started to bend over. On day 10 there the plant was dead and started to decompose. I shook my jar and a ball of what I though was dirt, but then I looked at it and it was white and fuzzy and I couldn't figure it out. I think it is the decomposed plant, but I'm not sure.
