2 From Houston Area  Take Interstate 10 east to Beaumont. Exit Highway 69/96 (Port Arthur exit) just before the Hilton on the right. Continue down Highway 69/96; take the Martin Luther King exit. Turn left on Martin Luther King; pass under the overpass. Take the first exit off Martin Luther King. Continue through first stop sign; turn left at second stop sign (Lavaca). Turn left again at the next stop sign. Drive down the access road, passing the Rothwell Recital Hall, Geology and Psychology buildings, and the Galloway Business Building. You'll see a large vertical sign that says "Information." Turn right into this driveway and speak to the guard, who will direct you further. WHERE IS IT?

4  Sociology Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociology’s subject matter ranges from the intimate family to the hostile mob, from crime to religion, from the division of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, from the sociology of religion to the sociology of education. Students majoring in sociology have established careers in such areas as law, business administration, health, politics, urban planning, city government, counseling and human resources, advertising and marketing, public relations and the media, criminal justice, education, and the nonprofit sector. 5  Human Resources Management Human resources management involves the recruitment, selection, maintenance, and development of human resources by organizations. It includes such diverse functional areas as interviewing, training, compensation and benefits, health and safety, and labor relations. University graduates in human resources management are found in all types of business firms, larger service organizations, and governmental agencies. HOW TO USE THE DEGREE

6  Engineering Industrial engineers combine advanced study in management systems, economics, and decision- making to answer such questions as: “What products or services should we offer? What materials and methods should we use? How can we improve quality, productivity, service, and employee safety?” Typical responsibilities of the industrial engineer involve design, operation, and management. While the manufacturing industry demands many graduates, increasing numbers are finding satisfying employment in other kinds of businesses, such as airlines, banks, restaurant chains, department stores, hospitals, and governmental agencies. 7 The department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Sign Language (ASL) for students interested in teaching sign language in EC-12 programs.
