6 Format for Advanced Inquiry Labs
Background Experiment Overview Pre-Lab Questions – safety, principles and calculations, e.g., order of reaction Introductory Activity – introduce lab technique, “rough” exp’t to select range, etc. Guided Inquiry Design and Procedure – inquiry guidance provided by leading questions AP Chemistry Review Questions – integrate inquiry, content, and reasoning Teacher’s Notes

7 Designing a Hand Warmer – Intro Activity
Design an effective hand warmer that is in-expensive, non-toxic, and environmentally safe. Determine heat capacity of calorimeter Determine heat energy change for a solution of MgSO4

8 Design a Hand Warmer – Guided Inquiry Activity
Solid Cost ($/kg) ΔT (experimental) 5 g/45 mL ΔT (extrapolated) 10 g/40 mL Sodium Chloride 0.0079 −1.4oC N/A Calcium Chloride 0.0131 14.4oC 31.9oC Sodium Acetate 0.0258 4.7oC 10.3oC Lithium Chloride 0.0655 19.2oC 43.2oC Ammonium Nitrate 0.0181 −8.0oC

9 Rockets, Reactions and Ratios
Create a rocket that will travel 1 meter or more using a film canister engine fueled with 15 mL of vinegar and an amount of baking soda that yields a ratio of rocket mass to baking soda mass equal to or greater than 20:1

10 Ruby-Red Colloidal Gold
A unique introduction to nanotechnology and the structure-property relationship – get drastically different optical properties based on size, for the same material! Students can attempt to target specific particle sizes and optical properties by varying basic synthesis parameters such as heating time and temperature.

11 How Big is a Nanometer?

12 Au3+(aq) + 3e-  Au(s) C6H5O73-(aq) + H2O(l)  C5H4O52-(aq) + CO2(g) + H3O+(aq) + 2e-

19 10 units of foundational Chemistry review include:
Unit 1 – Nomenclature Unit 2 – Atomic Structure and Periodic Trends Unit 3 – Chemical Reactions Unit 4 – Bonding Basics Unit 5 – Structures and Properties Unit 6 – Stoichiometry Unit 7 – Gases Unit 8 – Solutions Unit 9 – Acids and Bases Unit 10 – Critical Thinking in AP chemistry The course does not need to be completed in a specific order.

20 The first section of the course is an engaging review of foundational chemistry concepts to replace the traditional summer review packet for incoming AP students. Multiple methods of delivery are used to present topics to your students including easy-to-follow text, images, detailed animations, informative video, and quick quizzes.

21 Coming in August 2016! Additional AP level supplemental content for your students to use throughout the school year. Unit 11 Unit 12 Unit 13 Unit 14 Unit 15 Units will be added to any active individual or classroom license for no additional cost.

22 Each unit in the course concludes with a 20 question multiple choice assessment.

23 Teachers have the ability to view detailed assessment results for all students that are linked to their FlinnPREP classroom. Teachers are able to see what questions were asked and how students answered.

24 Easily create a classroom to link students, activate a classroom license, and view student progress.

25 Section 1 shown to the left is a Class Results Breakdown.
Teachers have the ability to view a classroom report that is broken into two sections. Section 1 shown to the left is a Class Results Breakdown. Screenshot from Teacher Account Classroom Report

26 Section 2 is a topic breakdown
Section 2 is a topic breakdown. Each assessment is broken into multiple sub-topics. The topic breakdown report shows how many total questions were asked for that sub-topic and how many were answered correctly by all linked students.

27 Several Affordable License Options Available
All Licenses are valid for 18 months Individual Student License - $19.95 Classroom Students - $199 Classroom Students - $279 Classroom Students - $349 Classroom Students - $499
