2 Our priorities for 2013-2014 District Goals – 1) Ensure individual students continuously exhibit academic and personal growth. 2) Develop a facility plan to support academic growth and community partnerships. 3) Increase stakeholder participation in activities which support student development.

3 Building Data - Reading Data Sources : –Measures of Academic Progress ( MAP ) –Nebraska State Accountability ( NeSA ) –District Assessments –Grade Level Assessments –Common Formative Assessments Using the Using Data to Guide Action for School Improvement ( data guidebook ) processes and tools, our SIP Team and PLCs analyzed district, building and classroom data to determine areas of strength & need in reading

4 Priorities identified and rationale Reading –K – 1 – 2 –Etc. Second area of building focus –Climate and Culture –Rationale : Based on perception surveys completed by students, parents and staff in Spring 2013, our building School Improvement Committee identified this as a second area of focus. Specific areas :

5 Building Goals 2013-2014 Reading : All students will meet or exceed individual projected growth targets on MAP Reading from Fall 13- Spring 14, by focusing on areas of need as indicated on MAP goal strands, by grade level. Strategies : ( As indicated by grade level ): –Involving students in monitoring their own growth ( example : L to J ) –Targeting Plus Time interventions to individual student needs, and using developmentally appropriate & skill - specific intervention strategies, specified in grade level PLC SMART Goals –Periodic progress monitoring – District SIP / PLC process checkpoints

10 First Grade - example Reading - –Rationale : Spring MAP – Focus on Concepts of Print – this was the lowest performance area for 1 st grade students at ABC School for Spring 2013 MAP testing, based on 1 st grade average ( median ), and was the lowest goal area for 3 out of 4 1 st grade classes in our building. Second academic area : Writing –Rationale : Our Spring 2013 First Grade data ( specify ) indicated student achievement in the area of writing skills was below expectations, relative to their other academic development. Upon analyzing the data, we identified word choice as an area of student need. The Writing goal area from Spring 2013 MAP for Primary Grades was also a low goal performance area for 1 st grade.

Our goal: Counselors will monitor student performance of SLANT behaviors. 70 % of 5 th grade students will be proficient on the use of 5 SLANT behaviors. 1. Pre observation of SLANT behaviors 2.In-service teachers 3.Implement SLANT behaviors -sit up straight -lean forward -ask questions -nod your head -track the speaker 4. 19 Checkpoint – Q 1 What have we learned ? ( example statements ) –Our efforts are paying off ! 5 of 6 grade level PLCs reported making expected gains at end of Q 1 on reading goals 3 of 6 grade level PLCs reported making expected gains in the area of improved school climate / culture –Based on our data, 2 nd grade team will revise their end - of - year goal upward, as they expect to meet their goal by end of 2 nd Quarter. Other teams will retain goals they have set. –All grade level teams feel they have identified the appropriate strategies to impact reading achievement – 2 of 6 grade level PLCs will revise their approaches to grouping students for Plus Time Evidence : –Qualitative ( Pictures, work samples / exemplars, teacher and student perception data, parent surveys, etc ) –Quantitative ( numeric data : MAP, CFA, pre & post - testing, formative assessment data collected on a weekly or bi - weekly basis ( PLC by PLC ), etc.
