5 The Background  There will be a shortage of healthcare professionals (41000 in 2030)  Norway has to educate 4500 each year  The project forms a part of  The Norwegian Government Healthcare Reform Bill No 25  The Competence Plan 2015 A class of 14 year old students arranging a quiz at the local health care centre in Aure

Project Output 1: To increase recruitment of both young people and adults to municipalities, hospitals and private clinics Project Output 2: To ensure we obtain the right relationship between the number of apprenticeship places available and the quality of the training Project Output 3: To increase the overall number of people applying for apprenticeships The City of Trondheim wants more men in the healthcare sector

9 Recruitment patrols One of the ways to attract young people to become healthcare workers is by the use of “recruitment patrols” They consist of young healthcare workers who visit schools and give “live” testimonies about: what their work consists of how it is organized challenges they meet how their employers train them the value of being a healthcare worker who means a lot to the clients The Tromsø- patrol

10 Recruitment patrols The recruitment patrols are skillful young workers who are good ambassadors for the profession. The members of the recruitment patrols are trained by the project. The patrols visit last year of secondary school and the first two years of upper secondary education (health and social care) in their district. The recruitment patrols started in 2007 with 3 patrols visiting about 2500 pupils. In 2009 32 patrols visited 25000 pupils. The Mo i Rana-patrol Photographer: Rolf Ørjan Høgseth

11 Health care tournaments Caring The Competitors in caring work in pairs and each pair will be required to plan and deliver care based on the given simulated situation. There will be a variety of assignments (3-4 days). The format of the Test Project is a series of standalone modules: A. Assessment and planning B. Communication, ethics and legal issues C. Caring and nursing D. Safety, ergonomics sustainability and environmental regulations E. Evaluation First aid The judges in the background
