Polym orph Smart Material s Polymorph is a thermoplastic material that can be shaped and re - shaped any number of times. Although expensive, polymorph is suitable for 3 D modelling as it can be shaped by hand or pressed into a shape through the use of a mould. Smart Material s Thermochr omic Inks These thermochromic pigments are made up as a liquid paste compatible with any acrylic media. At normal room temperature the pigment appears coloured, but at 27. c the colour disappears. When the temperature falls again the pigment colouring re - appears. Smart Material s Photochr omic Inks Photochromic ink darkens as the light level increases. Some photochromic inks change colour. It is UV light that causes the darkening of the ink, which means the ink works best in natural light. This technology has been manufactured to produce ‘ reaction lenses ’ spectacle lenses which darken in bright UV light. Smart Materia ls Smart Wire Shape Memory Alloy ( SMA ) there are a number of alloys that exhibit useful memory characteristics. Self adhesive plastic film, which is then overprinted with thermochromic crystal ink as the temperature changes the liquid crystals re - orientate and produce an overall colour change. Can be used to give temperature indications - like a thermometer. Smart Materia ls Cold Forming Plastic This amazing plastic can be shaped by hand at room temperature to form a permanent bend - no need for oven or strip heaters !
