Habitat Sumatran tigers are from the Indonesian island of Sumatra. They live in lowland forests, mountain forests, and peat moss forests. Some also venture into mountainous areas.

Size and weight The tiger is the largest cat species and is classified with the lion, leopard, jaguar, and snow leopard. A male Sumatran tiger can be up to eight feet long and up to 300 pounds. A female can be up to seven feet long and 200 pounds.

Prey Sumatran tigers are carnivores, and prey on small animals from fish and birds, to large ungulates like wild boar, tapir, and deer.

Predators Due to the size and power of the Sumatran tiger, it has no natural predators in its native environment. Humans that hunt the Sumatran tiger and habitat loss are the only threats to the Sumatran tiger.

Life Expectancy In the wild, the Sumatran tiger can live about 12 years. They can live as much as 20 years in a zoo.
