11 Coordination on specifications –Assigned by coordination groups –Developed in working groups –Submitted to coordination groups –Conventions to reach adoption Standards –Used where fit for purpose –Profiled where needed –Hand-crafted where none fit/available Standards

14 eID – from card to mobile Bank cards (ATM cards) Each bank card issued since March 2005 has been an SSCD (as of 1999/93/EC) – about 6.5 mio. cards Health insurance cards: Rollout Mai-Nov. 2005, is an SSCD 100 % coverage reached end of Nov. 2005 (~9 mio.) activation free of charge for citizens Further initiatives: official’s service card CSP signature cards student service cards, etc. Mobile signatures: 2005-2008 relaunched 2009 free of charge for citizens

15 Card adoption limited –needs card reader, software installation, low- frequency users to remember PIN … –New technologies ask for 0-footprint (e.g. tablets) Mobile eID launched end of 2009 –Qualified electronic signature –Server-based signature Works will all mobile phones Works with all mobile operators, no SIM change Mobile eID

16 Both card and mobile eID free of charge for citizen Mobile eID activation meanwhile 6-8 times higher Mobile eID adoption
