2. Prereading Survey the text. What do you see? Are there titles? Subtitles? Charts, graphs, or pictures? What is the length of the reading? Make a prediction: What is this reading about? Scan the reading. Circle any new vocabulary words (words that you can’t define).

3. Step 1: Number the Paragraphs Before you read, take a moment to number the paragraphs in this reading selection. Paragraph numbers will serve as a reference so that you can easily find important points for later discussions.
