3 Where do living things come from? Today, we know living things come from living things through reproduction. – Asexual – reproduction from one parent – Sexual – reproduction with two parents combining their genetic material.

5 Where do living things come from? Redi’s Experiment – Help disprove spontaneous generation. – Experimented with rotting meat – Covered jars / not covered jars – Maggots developed on meat not covered – No maggots on covered meat.

7 The Needs of Living Things All living things have the same basic needs. Water Food – Energy source Autotrophs Heterotrophs Living Space – All organisms needs a place to live Stable Internal Conditions – Homeostatsis

8 Review List the six characteristics of living things. What is meant by the idea of spontaneous generation? What four things do all living things need to survive? The artic fox has think dense fur in the winter and much shorter hair in the summer. How does this help the fox maintain homeostasis?
