2 H OME He lived in a town named Sighet in Transylvania (Northern Romania – then ruled by Hungary) This is the house Wiesel was born in, and he lived there until he was 15.

7 15,500 OF THE 15,500 JEWS DEPORTED FROM SIGHET WITH WIESEL IN 1944, 2,000 ONLY 2,000 RETURNED AFTER THE WAR.

8 F AMILY  Wiesel was born to his father, Shlomo and mother, Sarah Frig Wiesel.  Elie is the third of four children  He has two older sisters, Hilda, the oldest, and Bea, the second oldest  His little sister’s name is Tzipora
