3 IEEE Central Texas Section 2008 Meetings l February 19, 2008 Investigating Field Failures, Ivan VanDeWege (CASE Forensics) l What happens when your product overheats, flames on and starts a fire in your customer’s warehouse? How about in someone’s home? Or if your product develops a direct short from the mains power source to the outer metal cover, causing someone to get shocked and hospitalized? Ivan VanDeWege, from CASE Forensics, will be joining us all the way from Oregon to fill us in on the process of investigating field failures like these, when insurance companies and possibly lawyers are involved. He will cover the common steps of the investigation, and some common mistakes made during investigations of this type. If you’ve ever been involved in something like this you KNOW this is good information to have in your “book of knowledge” before this happens. l March 18, 2008 Update on Wireless Regulatory Issues, Jason Limoges, (Dell) l Join us next Tuesday evening to find out what’s happening in the realm of wireless regulatory issues. Bring a friend and your questions. If you’re not all that familiar with the wireless side of communications, this would be a good opportunity to do some catching up. l April 15, 2008 Product Safety Liability – Overview, Brian Falbo, (Dell) l Join us next Tuesday evening to discover what’s going on in the world of product safety liability. That’s when “your” lawyers meet “their” lawyers and potentially someone loses a lot of money or spends some jail time! This has become an international concern since the advent of RoHS, WEE and other directives in the European Union – not to mention the recent safety issues with products made in Mainland China. May 20, 2008Medical Care and Devices – What the Future May Hold, Daniece Carpenter (Dell) l Daniece will explore the trends in medical devices and health care and how the standards world is helping to shape those trends. What was science fiction just a few years ago is reality today! What will that reality be in just a few more years? Join us as Daniece looks into her crystal ball and gives us an idea of what to expect. l June 17, 2008Failure Analysis of Lithium Ion Batteries, Jim Seippel (Dell) Jim is a manager at Dell responsible for investigation of field failures. He is also the chair of the ITI battery working group.
