2. 7 th and 8 th Grade, Monday Come in, sit down quietly, and correct the following sentences in your warm-up journal. The story “Flowers for Algernon” is the diary of Charlie Gordon. He is the subject of a medical experiment. Charlie isn’t barely able to read and write and he don’t understand very much. Skills practiced: Use of relative clause to combine sentences, correction of double negative, use of comma before coordinating conjunction in compound sentence, subject and verb agreement.

3. Journal Entry #1, Wednesday In a well developed, planned paragraph make a prediction: What do you think that an archetype is? Give an example.

4. Journal Entry #2, Wednesday Now that you know what an archetype is, think of a Disney cartoon you have seen. In a well developed, planned paragraph, give an example of an archetype from this movie and provide evidence that the character embodies the archetype you have chosen.

A surgeon named Dr Strauss offers Charlie an experimental operation to increase his intelligence. The doctor has did this experiment before. On a mouse named Algernon. Skills practiced: Use of period with abbreviation, correct past participle of irregular verb, correction of sentence fragment.

6. 7 th and 8 th Grade, Friday Come in, sit down quietly, and correct the following sentences in your warm-up journal. As Charlie’s intelligence increases, he notices things he never seen before, like how other people laugh at him. In only three months time, he is working with his doctors on their research. Skills practiced: Correct past form of irregular verb, correct use of subordinating conjunction, correct use of apostrophe to show possession.
