1. Author Study Activity: Langston Hughes

2. Activity You will be working in groups. Your group will be assigned a section of the text. Your group will be “teaching” the class that section of the text. This means your group will read and create a bulleted, summarized list to present to the class. You will need to create a set of class notes as other groups present. These notes on Langston Hughes will go in the “Class Notes” section of your notebook.

3. Steps: In your group you need to assign roles according to the sheet Ms. Ellis has given you. Once all roles are assigned, the reader will read your section of the text. If you come across a term new to you, add it to the Vocabulary Board. Your group is responsible for adding new terms to the Vocabulary Board AND looking in either the Glossary at the back of your text book or the dictionary for the definition. As a group, create a bulleted summarized list of key facts and ideas present in your section of the text. Make sure your group’s list is an accurate summary, as your classmates are relying on your group to “teach” them about your section. Once you are finished with your list, sit quietly until all groups are finished. We will then begin presentations.
