1 Question motivating workshop: What are the existing and future challenges in coordinating and managing multiple uses of the Chukchi and Beaufort Sea and how might different ways of working together affect our success? Strengthening Institutions: Alternative Approaches to Cooperative Management

2 Why discuss alternatives or hypothetical institutions? 1.Understand how different organizations, peoples, government agencies are connected 2.Can help us to understand possible communications or policy pathways and dynamics that we may not otherwise see 3.These pathways can be critical in tackling challenges and crises 4.Help to trace potential consequences of policy decisions 5.Use models as a “thinking tool” to ask if we are meeting societal goals
