1 John Averet Millis ► Millis's trade and hard work ensured him a glamorous career bringing a big capital and an honorable position at the Royal Academy of Art.

2 ► 1829-John Averet Millis was born on July 8, in Southampton. ► 1838-Milles’s family moved in London where Johnny entered in Art School of Henry Sassa ► 1840-Jonny was accepted for the Royal Academy of Art and he became the youngest student there. ► 1846-the first was exhibited ► 1848-Milles organized the “Brotherhood of pre- Raphaelites” ► 1855-he married to Effie Grey ► 1856-the first son, Averet, was born, later Effie and John also had seven children ► 1863-he became an academician of the Royal Academy of Art

3 ► 1885-Milles got the title of Baronet and became the first British artist who had it ► 1886-he painted the picture “The Bubbles” ► 1896-in spite of the hard disease Milles took an offer to become a president of the Royal Academy of Art. He died on August 13.

4 The autumn leaves ► This picture was the first Millis's attempt to move away from his familiar narratives and historical plot

5 Drawings ► Millis was an outstanding graphic artist. The majority of drawings refers to early period of his creative work.

6 The moments of truth ► At the beginning of Millis's artist career he strove for getting rid of stylistic inhabits and started out for aesthetics “art for art’s sake”.
