8 Honours Courses (New) New to Pinetree Honours Program 1. Micro-Economic 12 Honours/AP (8 credits)  AP Microeconomics is an introductory college-level course that focuses on the principles of economics that apply to the functions of individual economic decision-makers. Students may choose to write the optional AP exam, which is offered in early May. Upon completion, students will receive credit for both Economics 12 and Economics 12AP (8 credits in total). OR 2. Macro-Economics 12 Honours/AP (8 credits)  AP Macroeconomics is an introductory college-level course that focuses on the principles that apply to an economic system as a whole. Students may choose to write the optional AP exam, which is offered in early May. 8

9 Honours Courses Students self select on Course Planning form Students should only select if they are prepared for the rigors of an Honours Program Departments have established a process to select candidates ( for example English 10H and 11H have an assessment) Successful candidates will be notified in May with a Course Verification issued in PACK 9

10 Pinetree Programs Continued Transition Programs Work Experience (30 hours employability skills/ 90- 100 hours on a jobsite)  If you select WE 12 you must also attach a separate application form to your programming sheet. See Ms. Louie in counselling area for this form. SSA(Secondary School Apprentice) –work in a trade and earn High School Credit  (Examples include: construction workers, cooks, mechanics, and auto body) This program will allow students to: Gain high school credit (every 120 hour of work earns 4 credits to a maximum of 16 credits) School Apprenticeship or ACE-IT programs- District Wide 10

11 ACE IT (trades) Programs ACE IT= Trades Training Coquitlam School district offers 14 foundation trades programs that will teach the technical and practical training required to write the ITA certification exam at the end of the semester.

French11 SFU requires at minimum a beginners language11 i.e. Beginners Spanish 11 An External Language 11 Language 11 or 12 challenge is accepted by most Universities.  UBC and U of T do not accept this  SFU will Check requirements at each Post Secondary Institute. 14

15 Writing 12 For: Students who have completed English 10 and would like to improve their writing skills This course is designed to help students prepare for senior-level writing at the grade 12 and post- secondary levels. Students will be expected to have at least basic proficiency in the English language. Emphasis will be on using the Writing Process ( prewriting, drafting, editing, proof-reading, and submitting) and the Four R’s of editing (Rereading, Reviewing, Rethinking, and Rearranging) to create a portfolio of compositions in different genres.

20 SFU Quantitative Requirements (this has not changed)  70% in Foundations of Math 11, Precalculus 11 or Precalculus 12 depending on the program you are applying to OR  60-69% in the applicable Math course plus a score at least 20/30 on a diagnostic skills test (Q Placement test) at SFU before beginning their quantitative courses OR  60-69% in in the applicable Math course plus complete within your 1 st year a Foundations of Analytical and Quantitative Reasoning course with a grade of C or better before beginning quantitative courses at SFU

21 SFU English Language Skills Requirements (this has not changed) 75% or higher in English 12 OR (in order to take a first year English course) A grade of 60-74% in Eng 12 plus a score of 4 on the essay section of the LPI exam and a minimum score of 50% on all other parts of the LPI exam OR A grade of 60-74% in Eng 12 plus with in your 1 st year complete of a Foundations in Academic Literacy course with a C or higher

35 35 PINETREE Mathematics for Grade 11 One Math 11 course is required for graduation: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 11 Pre-Calculus Mathematics 11 Pre-calculus 11 (Bridge) (MA11A&W credit)  The main purpose of this course is to provide students the opportunity to gain a stronger foundation in the academic stream of Mathematics. Topics are similar to the Pre-Calculus 10 curriculum and attempts to bridge some topics taught in the Pre-Calculus 11 course. Students eager to enroll in Pre- Calculus 11 should aim for a minimum of a B in this course.  Recommended for students who received less than 60% in Foundations of Math &Pre-Calc 10

37 Summer Learning 2016 and for Grade 12’s Online Intentions: Declare the course you plan to enroll in at Summer School on your Course Planning Sheet. Declare which course you will take in place of this course as you must still take 8 at Pinetree Secondary. A confirmation of your courses including Summer School will be verified in May. You need to notify your counsellor immediately if you have not been able to enroll or your summer plans change. Grade 12’s if you plan to take an online course you must indicate it now what course and where.
