3 Important Dates and Information January 30th to March 4 th – Parent and Student Connect will be open to select courses Once students choose on Student Connect parents have to approve the choices and should SAVE (send) course requests via Parent Connect February 1 st - Junior Course planning evening –for your parents @ 7:00pm

7 Planning 10 Planning 10 curriculum: Graduation Program Education and Careers Health Finances Students will be introduced to the Grad Transitions Plan Planning can be taken in Gr. 10 or 11 Planning 10 will be available at SDSS and Online through Delta Access and SDSS, for both English and Immersion programs. Registration for both will be available on Parent Connect Online Planning 10 courses will be tied to the school and have an in-house instructor Online Planning 10 courses will run September to June *Planning 10 Online via SDSS must be chosen at the time of course selection*

8 Graduation Transitions Plan 150 min/week of physical activity 30 hours of work experience Transition ‘Plan’ (post-secondary, travel, work, etc.) Final interview The Transitions Plan is expected to be completed in the first term of their Gr. 12 year. 10 UBC admission is based on the following courses: MATH: PC 11 or FN 12 is the minimum for entrance. ARTS: English 12 & 3 other Academic 12 courses SCIENCE:English 12, Ma 12, Physics 11, Chemistry 11, with at least one of: Bi12, Ch12, Geo12, or Ph12 ENGINEERING: English12, Ch11 & Ch12, Ma12, Ph11 & Ph12 COMMERCE: English 12, Math 12 & 2 Academic 12 courses

20 Changes to the Math Curriculum 3 Pathways: Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics – designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into the majority of trades and for direct entry into the work force. NO UNIVERSITY WILL TAKE THIS MATH FOR ENTRANCE!! Foundations of Mathematics – designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for post-secondary studies in programs that do not require the study of theoretical calculus. Pre-calculus - designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into post-secondary programs that do require the study of theoretical calculus. 26 Language Challenge Exams for those students with a background in Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, Punjabi, Korean, German they may apply to write a challenge exam to earn Language 11 and 12 credits. Application process is in the fall Exam will take place in January Exams are free to all students, except International students *Challenge exam scores can be used towards the student’s number of required academic 12 courses, but the score will not be tallied into their GPA.

27 Summer School Remedial For those students who need to repeat a course Must have achieved 40% or better in their class for entrance 4 weeks in July 2 course maximum 1 hr 45 min. class English 9, Socials 9, Math 9, Science 9 Full-Credit 3 hour class 5 weeks in July/Aug English, Science, & Math 10 courses write Provincial in August English 10, Socials 10, Science 10, Math 10, Planning 10 Traditional and blended (some online work) options

28 Online Courses Delta’s online school is called Delta Access – check website for course availability Spring / Summer session in all courses currently offered (including Planning 10) Online courses also available through: Vancouver Learning Network (VLN) Surrey Connect Fraser Valley Distance Education (FVDES) EBUS

29 External Credits Students may earn credits toward graduation through training programs outside of school: Dance (Royal Academy of Dance) Music (Royal Conservatory of Music) Sports (Provincial or National team level) Lifesaving (Bronze Cross, NLS, Instructor) Cadets (National Defense Cadet Certification) Coaching (Level 1-2, First Aid, 75-150 hours) Official (Theory, evaluation, 75-125 hours) Driver Ed. (ICBC accredited program) First Aid (WCB level II and III) *students are required to submit documentation as proof of program completion

30 Passport to Education Offered by the Ministry of Education Grades 10 -12 Earn up to $1000 for post-secondary For students demonstrating high achievement in academic and non-academic areas Based on their best 5 subjects Awarded to approximately the top 30% of each grade Gr. 10 = $250 Gr. 11 = $250 Gr. 12 = $500
