Climate

Warm Up What type of front? Where is the higher pressure and why? Why are clounds/storms forming?

Warm Up What type of front is this? Which air mass has more pressure? Why are clouds/storms forming?

Reading and Q’s Describe the difference between weather and climate What effects climate? What are ice ages and interglacials and what causes them? How are humans contributing to climate change? How are living things affected by climate change?

Describe the difference between weather and climate Weather is short term changes in the atmosphere while climate is long term average weather.

What effects climate? Altitude: Higher = colder Latitude: How close are you to the equator? Farther away = colder Precipitation: Lots (rain forrest) medium (most of the USA) or little (desert)

What are ice ages and interglacials and what causes them? Ice ages are periods where earth’s climate is much colder than average causing ice to build up across the world. Interglacials are warmer periods in-between ice ages These are both caused by changes in earth’s orbit around the sun

How are humans contributing to climate change? Green house gasses: CO2 etc. Deforestation: Cutting down forests Aerosols: Putting liquid chemicals in the air Look at the graph on 512. Is CO2 the only factor affecting global temperature? What else might be affecting temperature?

How are living things affected by climate change? Videos!
