4 1.The students who were sixth graders learned about the Incas. 2.The Incas who lived in South America resided in the country of Peru. 3.The Inca people which developed an incredibly extensive road system lived during the 14 th century. 4.Their road system that extended over 14,000 miles provided access to over three million acres of territory. 5.The wheel that was not part of their culture was not used at this time in history.

7 When do you use that instead of which ? If you can omit the adjective phrase from the sentence, and it does not alter the meaning or is non-essential….use which. Inns which were used for runners to rest were placed along the road systems. If the adjective phrase is essential to the meaning of the sentence and should be not be omitted… use that. The runners that worked in a relay fashion worked much like the Pony Express in the 1860’s in North America.

8 When do I use who and when do I use whom? Try this: the he/him method he=who him=whom Who/whom wrote the letter? He wrote the letter….therefore, who is correct. For who/whom should I vote? I should vote for him….therefore, whom is correct.
