10 Close Reading

11 Reread the last two paragraphs silently to yourself. You may transfer any annotations you may have from yesterday’s reading. Round 1

12 Turn to your partners and discuss the questions that you have. Make sure each person gets a turn to ask their questions. Feel free to add annotations or questions to your own paper. Round 2

13 Reread the last paragraphs again, one section at a time! Trade off reading each section so that everyone has a chance to read. Stop after each section and discuss… -the personification of nature -make a list of what nature does in order -discuss: how does nature affect Okeke? I suggest you write down the most important points of your discussion. Round 3

14 Reread the close read AGAIN!!!! Switching readers each turn. Stop after each section and discuss… -diction -circle what you believe to be the most important words -look up definitions and synonyms as needed (I suggest you do this for words that you know as well because a deeper understanding of the words will help you in the long run. Round 4

15 Reread the sections again one last time. Discuss: What happens after the story is over? Find specific evidence to back up your answer! Write down your response. Round 5

16 Take a seat in our Socratic Seminar circle Turn in your notebooks to our class bin. I will specifically be grading the notes you made for “Appostrophes in Contractions” from our website.
