1 SPECIAL NOTES AND REMINDERS The School of Integrated Learning Middle School 354 is located on the third floor of the Maggie Walker Campus. The Main Office is located in Room 346. School hours are from 8:00 AM to 2:20 PM on Mondays and Fridays and 8:00 AM to 3:10 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mandatory extended day hours will be included for the 2010 -2011 school year. Students will be informed of these hours in September 2010. Breakfast is served from 7:30– 7:55 AM. Students, staff and parents/ guardians will use the main entrance on Sterling Place to enter and exit the building. All students are expected to wear the selected academic dress code (uniform) of closed shoes or sneakers, khaki or navy blue pants, skort or skirt with a light blue (baby blue) top. No hooded shirt is allowed. All students must wear sneakers and the required gym uniform for gym classes. 2 The Mission Statement We at the School of Integrated Learning (MS 354) guide our community individually and collectively towards success by making good choices that address academic needs and enhance social development, while awakening and nurturing interests and talents. The School The School of Integrated Learning is in its sixth year and will be graduating its fourth group of students this June. Curriculum Focus: Balanced Literacy and Balanced Mathematics Workshop Model of Instruction. Research based and data driven instructional methods of instruction. Standards based academic activities in all content areas. Interdisciplinary/project based instruction. Technology interventions and enrichment activities. Service learning activities. Co-Curriculum Activities/Clubs The Co Curriculum Activities will serve to develop students’ skills, interests and talents. The Staff The staff is dedicated to serving each student to maximize his or her fullest potential. To achieve this end staff will be fully engaged:  in professional development activities to enable each student reach goals of high academic achievement.  in staff team building that pools collective talents in a collaboration that promotes best practices in teaching and learning by: crafting and implementing engaging instructional activities sharing effective classroom management strategies developing parent communication skills integrating technology and instruction providing appropriate academic intervention and enrichment activities for all students. Breakfast begins at 7:30AM. School begins at 8:00 AM daily. Thursday, September 16, 2010 – mandatory orientation for new students at 5:00 PM in the auditorium. Parents and students are expected to attend. Dismissal is at 2:20 PM on Monday and Friday for all students. Dismissal is at 3:10 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for all students. School Supply List Please check the box as you acquire these items  8 200 page black composition notebooks  1 large three ring binder to hold 200 sheets of loose-leaf paper with dividers.  200 sheets of loose-leaf paper with red margin  6 plastic pocket folders for handouts placed in binder  English dictionary  plastic ruler  graph paper  calculator  red, blue, and black pens  package of 24 pencils  highlighters  large package of pencil thin multi color markers  large package of crayons  three hole pencil/pen/marker case for binder  personal sharpener with attached case for shavings  8 x 11 inch multi colored construction paper  Paper scissors  medium size glue  6 pack of multicolored post-its 2 x 3 inches  multicolored small index cards  paper towels  several packages of individual tissues (Kleenix)  white labels for all items, clothing, sneakers etc. Gym Attire: Navy blue shorts Light blue or white T shirt White sneakers Items Not Permitted: Multi colored sneakers Hooded sweat shirts Jeans Slippers
