Green vs. Green Energy Star vs. Non Energy Star By: Erik Lawson Zakia White Steven Vue Rachael Melendez

What’s Really Cheaper? 50” inch Samsung TV's Recommendation #1

Water Heaters Whole House/ Sinks (Substitution) Y= 234x + 1498 Y= 178x + 224 234x + 1498 = 178x + 224 1274= -144x = -8.8472

Acid Rain Electricity The use of turbine to spin and convert kinetic energy into electricity and generator causing the shaft, armature to spin while electric currents are created. Carbon sulfur, nitrogen w/oxygen are the main pollutions caused by electricity. Acid Rain Using less electricity decreases acid rain and the pollution. How do we choose our actions around energy use ? Upgrading Manufacture choice

Acid Rain pt:2 CO 2 (g) + H 2 O(l)  H 2 CO 3 (aq): Carbonic acid SO 2 (g) + H 2 O(l)  H 2 SO 4 (aq): Sulfurous Acid SO 3 (g) + H 2 O(l)   H 2 SO 4 (aq): Sulfuric Acid 2 NO 2 (g) + H 2 O(l)  HNO 3 (aq) + HNO 2 (aq): Nitric Acid, Nitrous acid. Red: Acid, the chemicals that fall in the air. When are the environment and economy in harmony?

Ozone Oxygen, and is produced when air pollutants from automobile emissions and manufacturing operations interact with sunlight. Hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, from vehicle exhaust are caused by sunlight in the presence of oxygen gas. In the 70’s a chemical in aerosol depleted the ozone layer by breaking it down, allowing more sunlight to show. NO 2 (g) + sunlight  NO(g) + O(g) O(g) + O 2 (g)  O 3 (g)

Smog is a mixture of smoke and fog (Sulfur Dioxide), a product of burning coal. Burning coal creates electricity. Warmer less dense air rises caring pollutants w/it. Cooler less polluted air moves to lower surface. In a temperature inversion, a cool air mass is trapped beneath a less dense warm air mass in a valley or over a city.

Global Warming Global warming: the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation (wikipedia definition) We believe that Global Warming comes from smog and the hole in the ozone (sunlight) Smog causes temperature inversions meaning the temperature changes (mainly increases) Because so much power is being used in our world today the burning coals running the power creates smog Smog is depleting the ozone which is causing temperature inversions

Should California Go Green? When is it Green vs. Green? When are the environment and economy in harmony? How do we choose our actions around energy use?
