4 Review: How immune systems work Immune systems are constantly looking for, attacking and removing potentially harmful substances Medicines are only needed when the immune system is not able to get rid of the infection If the immune system is not working well The infection is too wide spread for a properly functioning immune system to fight it

5 Antibiotics Have you ever taken antibiotics? What illness was being treated? What antibiotic was used? What was the length of the treatment? Did the antibiotic work? Was all of the medicine used?

8 Procedure: Step 1: Roll the number cube Step 2: Step 3: Bacteria reproduce (add 1 to each color that you have) Step 4: Record the number of each type of bacteria Step 5: Repeat steps 1-4 eight times

9 “I Feel Better” Procedure: Step 1: Take antibiotic Step 2: Remove 5 disks; remove green first, then blue, then orange Step 3: Bacteria reproduce (add 1 to each color that you have) Step 4: Record the number of each type of bacteria Step 5: Repeat steps 1-4 until you have only 10 bacteria left Now you feel better. Should you stop taking the antibiotic? Why or Why Not?
