Logging the Footage When logging you will be affected emotionally by the footoage. Be aware of these thoughts and emotions. Write them down, but be able to separate yourself from them As an editor you need to be able to make critical, rational choices. Stay on Track.But if you are ever stuck, review your notes.

Primary Steps In Logging Check Recording tab. And make sure that everything is labeled properly Make Dubs of original tapes and work with that Store Tapes in Safe, Cool, Dry environment. Choose a comfortable work environment that is free of distractions. Be Mentally and Physically fit. Look at the tapes a couple of times before taking notes. Get to know your footage.

Log Sheets Shoud include: Title Of Program Reel Number/ title Timecode / Counter number (Rewind Tape and zero counter) Shot name Shot description Take # Technical and aesthetic qualities of shot.

Shot ends when camera cuts

Make detailed notes –Camera Movement/ quality and direction –Composition –Quality –Thing that stand out in frame –Headroom –Depth Of Field –Contrast

Make detailed notes –Sound quality –Narratives –Good Speeches –Interactions –Important Points –Noise or Interferance –Audio/ Video Lead ins and Tails

Preplanning An Edit Script Compare Script to Log notes. ( Now you know what you have) Organize Shots into Scenes and scenes into sequences There will be shots that you will combine with either the audio or video of another shot. Consider additional visual and aural materials that you will want.( music, sound effects, ambience,tittles,etc.)
