Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls Rack Design Layout of rack is complete AC Distribution design is done; parts are ordered and fabrication started Penetration punching began for both cables and AC Rack installation Desire for racks to be installed mid-June is tight due to delivery delays of UCMI. We are changing our plan to phase-deliver these instead of one large shipment. Mounting hardware being pulled out of racks this week for delivery to SLAC in May. With Fuller gone, who is the “go-to” person for these type of issues?

Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls UCM Status UCMI Design complete - contract awarded Expect first article delivery 2nd week of May Following units begin shipping about 2 weeks after acceptance UMPI Design is complete - drawings in final signature process All parts are on-site including long lead-time high power supplies Assembly will be done in-house starting May 12. Expect to take less than ~2 weeks. All VME hardware already on-site

Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls Software UCM Software testing and debugging complete. Version 1.0 released yesterday (4/28) Using latest RTEMS build (4.9) which corrects network- disconnect crash. Suggest that SLAC use a “standard” RTEMs build Cleaning up documentation Being used in support of other LTT tests X-Translation alignment procedures CAM calibration Installation tests

Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls Software details Independent upstream motion in X and Y Independent downstream motion in X and Y Combined Upstream/Downstream motion in X and Y (same X,Y set points simultaneously) CAM motor velocities are individually adjusted so all motors move simultaneously (virtual coordinated motion) Individual CAM motor motion is available

Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls Software details Undulator linear translation motion - IN (beam center), OUT (service mode?) Linear translation motion skew monitoring (software and hardware levels) Individual translation motor motion is available RTD temperature monitoring around girder assembly BFW insertion/retraction and position readback (limit switches and potentiometer)

Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls Software Details CAM calibration - ioc collects motion data that is processed by Octave program Smart Monitors - loss of communication to individual Smart Motor(s) position discrepancy between motor readback and potentiometer position (within tolerance) individual motors will be prohibited from motion if one of the above states occur Ioc sequence program to assist in recovering motor positions after power loss (load potentiometer values into motor positions)

Stein@aps.anl.gov Josh Stein 29-Apr-08 Undulator Controls Concerns Top 3 items that keep me up at night Rack components delivery (UCMI/UMPI) This has direct impact on delivery of racks If schedule slips much (>week) we may need to deliver some racks without some components installed. This will affect our handover plan. X-Translation alignment Tight tolerance here may make alignment very difficult The “whoops” factor Been bitten by this bug before Delivery of linear pot adapters and clips Right-angle connector for downstream translation stage potentiometer ???
