3 Interchangeable Parts - Eli Whitney What Did It Do? - Parts of a machine that are identical that allow for machines to be quickly built and repaired What Did It Change? -Sped up mass production (efficient production of large #’s of identical goods) -Machines/goods can be quickly built/repaired -Cost of goods cheaper

4 Steel Plow - John Deere What Did It Do? - Made possible to plow tough, thick soils that iron plows could not What Did It Change? - Allowed for more farmland to be created, increasing food production and farmer profits

5 Mechanical Reaper - Cyrus McCormick What Did It Do? - Quickly cut, thrashed and bundled wheat/corn What Did It Change? - Farmers could harvest more wheat/corn faster then ever, combined w/ steel plow, farmers growing more food than ever

6 The Cotton Gin –Eli Whitney What Did It Do? - Quickly and efficiently removed seeds from cotton What Did It Change? -Could do the same amount of work as 10 slaves in one day -Huge amounts of cotton could now be processed, therefore increasing demand of raw cotton -Saved institution of slavery as more slaves were needs to plant/grow/harvest/process raw cotton
