How and When to Use Steam Tables When the working fluid is on the T-s saturation dome curve, you can find all the properties of the fluid from a saturated steam table using just one state parameter (e.g. T or P). If you want an easy way to get steam properties, then download ChemicaLogic Steam Tab Companion http://www.chemicalogic.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/steamtab/companion/download.htm When the working fluid is above the curve and to the left of the peak on the T-s plot, your working fluid is a compressed liquid and you can find all the properties of the fluid from a compressed liquid water table using two state parameter (e.g. T and P, or P and s). When the working fluid is above the curve and to the right of the peak on the T-s plot, your working fluid is a superheated gas and you can find all the properties of the fluid from a superheated steam table using two state parameter (e.g. T and P, or P and s). When the working fluid is below the curve on the T-s plot, your working fluid is a combination of saturated liquid and saturated gas. To find the properties of the fluid you will use the saturated steam table and the percent that is liquid.
