Rini : Well, I think that’s fair enough Carol : Why do you think so? Rini : You see…mobile phones have caused so much trouble in our class. Remember yesterday’s chemistry class? Our teacher got very angry because he was interrupted by hand phone’s ringing many times. This may happened again and again. Carol : Hm’m… Rini : Another thing is, mobile phones have caused a kind of stupid competition Carol : What do you mean? Rini : You know, everyone seems to compete to have the latest model Carol : Yes, I feel that too. Rini : So it’s good idea if the school doesn’t allow students to use their mobile phones in the school.

4 Asking and Giving Advice
Asking for advice: I've got a bad toothache. What do you suggest? What do you advise me to do? What should I do? What ought I to do? What's your advice? If you were me what would you do? Giving advice If I were you, I would go to the dentist. Why don't you go to the dentist? You'd better brush your teeth regularly. You ought to/should avoid eating sweets. If you take my advice, you'll go to the dentist. It might be a good idea to brush your teeth on a regular basis. I advise you to brush your teeth on a regular basis. Have you thought about seeing a dentist.

5 Asking and Giving Advice
Declining to give advice I don't know what to advise, I'm afraid. I wish I could suggest something, but I can't. I wish I could help. I'm afraid I can't really help you.

6 Things to remember about asking for and giving advice:
"Advise" is a verb. Example: "I advise you to learn English. You will undoubtedly need it in your higher studies" "Advice" is a noun. Example: "My father gave me this piece of advice when I was young: never give up" "Ought to" has nearly the same meaning as "should". The only difference is that "ought to " refers to a moral or external obligation but should is more of an advice.  Example: "You ought to stop smoking." "You should stop smoking." "You'd better" is the short form of "you had better" Example: "You'd better see a doctor!" = "You had better see the doctor"

7 Conversation Conversation 1 Aufa : I have a serious problem today. I have just lost my wallet. Tami : Don't be so sad my friend, let us search it around the park. Tami : Come on, tell me. What are you worried about? Aufa : OK... it's Mark. I think he has started smoking. I was talking to him yesterday about this topic and he toldd me that he isn't smoking. Tami : That's serious. What are you going to do? Aufa: I'm not sure. I should tell someone. What do you think I should do? Tami : If I were you, I'd speak to his older sister. She's really friendly. Aufa : I've never met her. Can you come with me? Tami : Yes, of course. Let's go and find her.
