Commissioning / Reliability Runs / Dry runs 1 Jan Uythoven, LIBD meeting on LBDS Reliability Run 04/02/2014 Nov – Dec 2013 Commissioning individual MKDs and MKBs Local (ABT) 06/01/2014– 14/02/2014 System tests LBDS Beam 1 and Beam 2 Local (ABT) 17/02/ /05/2014Reliability runLocal (ABT) March 2014Install new BIS – LBDS link(MPE) March – April 1/day week Tests from CCC, parallel to reliability run Remote 1 day/week (OP) 12/05/2014 – 23/05/2014 Install new TSU on LBDS & tests in local and from CCC (MPE / ABT / OP) 26/05/2014 – 04/07/2014 Reliability run in remote, local BIS loop and BETSIM. From CCC. UPS tests. Remote 07/07/2014 Weekly testing during dry runs / check on FESA(3) updates and added functionalities Remote Date to be determined by OP Remove local BIS and BETSIM, start testing machine wide and close BIS loop. Weekly testing. Remote End 2014 (OP)BIS loop closed, inject and dump under real machine conditions Remote Safety OK before summer Keep system working / software

LBDS Reliability Run in Local Planned 17/02/14 – 09/05/2014: 12 weeks Aim:  Find initial system faults (bathtub curve)  Confirm reliability numbers from the past with Modified equipment freshly installed Running at increased energy Our main concerns at the moment  Voltage holding at top energy Assume running at 7.1 TeV Extensive running at full energy  Stability of the pulses at injection energy Especially after longer period at full energy  Sufficient number of pulses for fault statistics 2 Jan Uythoven, LIBD meeting on LBDS Reliability Run 04/02/2014

Proposed programme Infinite number of loops WinCC Simulator Cycle Simulation  Add dt pulses at flat bottom energy  t flat top = 10 h ; t inj = 2h 5 min; dt inj = 10 min; t ramp = 20 min An energy scan once per week  see next slide Option to (later) integrate in AccTesting with automatic analysis 3 Jan Uythoven, LIBD meeting on LBDS Reliability Run 04/02/2014 t E 7.1 TeV 450 GeV pulse dt inj t flat top t inj

Energy Scan 5 pulses at each energy. Add the higher energies. 4 Jan Uythoven, LIBD meeting on LBDS Reliability Run 04/02/2014

Total Number of Pulses expected Compared to B1 in 2008, only 14 % of the number of pulses (but twice as many as for B2)  Are the number of pulses sufficient for statistics? Roberto’s thesis requests 3 months running period, 75 % running efficiency and pulse on average one time every hour: would expect six failures 2 LBDS systems for SIL3 system. This is ’only’ 1’512 pulses which we expect to easily achieve, but not at 7 TeV…  Don’t want to wear out the system too much However, effective running time at 7 TeV should be high 5 Jan Uythoven, LIBD meeting on LBDS Reliability Run 04/02/2014
