Nietzche By: Jessica Nelson, Alexis Grady, Katie Murdock, Mary Groseclose

Background information He was born on October 15, 1844 in Rocken bei lutzen, Germany. His father, who died when he was 4 years old, was a Lutheran preacher. THis left only his mother to care for him and his younger sister. He attended a private prep school in Naumburg, and moved on to get a classical education at the prestigious schulpforta school.

He graduated in He attended the University of Bonn for two semesters. he transferred to the University of Liepzig, where he studied theology and philology, a combination of literature, linguistics, and history. Background Information

Spiritual History Nietzche was brought up as a lutheran and his father was the minister of a lutheran church. Nietzche was originally very religious and he studied theology at the university of bonn. he became an atheist when he began studying the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer.

Spiritual history He was very critical of religion, especially christianity, because he saw it as a shield that people used to mask their fear of mortality and insignificance. Nietzche believed there was no justice or equality but there was only power and weakness.

Aesthetic he used an artistic point of view when writing. he throws truth back on the physcology of the believer rather than originating from the world. he suggests that consistency is overrated and should not be the ideal or ultimate arbitrator in human affairs. He works to have people figure out why he has said the things he’s said.,

Nietche’s Morality Nietzche developed the concept of “Slave and Master morality” in his philosophy. He believed that two principal sets of morals existed among mankind: Morality of the “slave” (anyone oppressed, in servitude, poor, or living under the strong rule of another. Women were included in this category) Those with “Slave” morality value humility, sincerity, diligence, and kindness. They tend to judge a person's intentions over their actions Morality of the “Master” (Those who possess power, influence, wealth, or a position of leadership.) Those with “Master” morality value pride, strength, nobility and tend to judge the actions of of a person rather than their intentions

Influential Philosophers He was strongly influenced by the writings of philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. Schopenhauer inspired Nietzche and helped influence Nietzche’s own ideas. he also was the influence who made him become an atheist. Many of his written compositions were influenced by Robert Schumann because his style of writing most fit his world views.
