Presentation transcript:

 She is the wife of Hades and the daughter of Demeter and Zeus!  Story behind Hades and Persephone….  Hades fail for Persephone very hard, and asked Zeus for her hand but he did not approve because he feared Demeter’s temper about the decision. So Hades whisks her away and makes her queen of the under world.

 Persephone is the goddess of the underworld.  She was also the goddess of spring growth, who was worshipped alongside her mother Demeter in the Eleusinian Mysteries.  Persephone’s origination is Greek.  She is usually describe as a venerable majestic queen of the shades.

 Persephone was in the garden with all the other maidens when she saw this beautiful flower called narcissus. She thought it looked so good, so she went to pick it. If you don’t know narcissus is the “flower of death”. Once Persephone pulled the flower out of the ground and the earth opens up and Hades the Lord of the Underworld jumps out. Now Hades was thinking ahh here’s my chance to take my wife and make her queen of the Underworld. So she gets taken down to the Underworld and Hades shows her the sights and stuff - but Persephone isn't too thrilled.

 Meanwhile, up above ground, Demeter is going nuts. No longer would Persephone rejoice in flower chains, nope, now she gets to wear metal on her head and sit in a shadow world and her only sweet and beautiful companions are dead. Persephone was very depressed about the whole situation. All she wanted to do was go home, she hadn’t ate in days. Then here came along this little boy his name was Ascalaphus. He got her to eat the seed of a pomegranate. When Demeter (her mother) found her it was too late. Ascalaphus tattled about her eating the seed of the pomegranate, and she was stuck in the Underworld.  “A good moral for this story is don’t take candy from a stranger”

 Persephone (“she who destroys the light”) is her name in the Ionic Greek of epic literature.  But the Greeks knew another face of Persephone as well. She was also the terrible Queen of the dead, whose name was not safe to speak aloud, who was named simply "The Maiden".

 A One-Act Comedy is a book about Persephone.  By: Ford Ainsworth

 Persephone our Goddess of Death and transformation is the gate of endings and beginnings.  Persephone was considered to be the same Goddess as the Roman Proserpina.  The Stephen King book Duma Key features the evil supernatural character "Perse" as the antagonist to the main character. As the novel reaches its conclusion, we learn that "Perse" is actually short for Persephone

Concept of the “Underworld”. This is when the earth opens and Hades takes Persephone.
