LARRY CLINE – HARDIN VALLEY CHURCH OF CHRIST – 8/13/2014

In August, or at any point you feel that sense of fatigue and discouragement, remember these things:

1. Feelings are unreliable. [Like] a city that is broken into [and] without walls Is a man who has no control over his spirit. (Proverbs 25:28 ) Trust in the L ORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5 )

2. Life is a series of opposite actions. Ecclesiastes 3:1-6 1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven. 2 A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. 3 A time to kill and a time to

heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up. 4 A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance. 5 A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing. 6 A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away.

4. We serve for Jesus’ sake. Colossians 3: Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who [merely] please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

5. We make an eternal difference in ministry. For all things [are] for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. (II Corinthians 4:15 )

6. God has eternal rewards in view. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (II Corinthians 4:17-18 )
