Direct every military operation toward a clearly defined, decisive, and attainable goal. Examples…. 1) Destroy Armed Enemy Forces 2) Capture Enemy Territory 3) Disrupt Enemy Supply Lines

Seize, Retain, and Exploit the Initiative. Reasons… 1) Forces enemy to react to you 2) Dictates nature, scope, and tempo 3) You retain “freedom of action”

Concentrate the effects of combat power at the decisive place and time Tactics 1) Synchronize combat power 2) Mass in time: Apply combat power against multiple targets simultaneously 3) Mass in space: Concentrate different elements of power against a single target

Employ all combat power available in the most effective way possible; allocate minimum essential combat power to secondary efforts. Reasons.. 1) All forces must have a purpose 2) Managed risks

Place the enemy in a position of disadvantage through the flexible application of combat power Reasons… 1) Keeps enemy off balance and reduces costs 2) Flexibility 3) Less predictable

For every objective, ensure unity of effort under one responsible commander. It ensures unity of effort

Never permit the enemy to acquire unexpected advantage. How To…. 1) Protect and preserve the force 2) Know thy enemy 3) Take necessary but calculated risks

Strike the enemy at a time or place or in a manner for which he is unprepared. Contributing Factors 1) Speed 2) Operations security 3) Asymmetrical capabilities

Prepare clear, uncomplicated plans and clear, concise orders to ensure thorough understanding. Reduces misunderstanding and confusion
