Blue Whale Made by: Allison

Classification Kingdom: Animalia (animals) Phylum: Chordata (vertebrates) Class: Mammalia (mammals) Order: Cetacea (whales and dolphins) Family: Balaenopteridae Genus: Balaenoptera Species: musculus

Whales’ shape They have big bodies that are very strong tails. Demensions: Length: on average 80 ft largest whale found was 92 ft. Height: 26 ft. Weight: 120 tons the heaviest was 190 tons or 380,000 pounds! Colors and markings: blue and white

Habitat Whales inhabit all seas but polar seas world wide. Their environment is seas and oceans. Whales’ shelter is in oceans and seas

Diet They only eat meat as of Krill, Plankton, and tiny fish. whale/balaenoptera-musculus/video-00.html

Social Behavior Whales travel and feed by themselves but they can be spotted with 4 to 5 other whales besides their young

Family life Whale twins are extremely rare or 1% of all baby whales have a twin. Female whales are in gestation for 11 to 12 months. Baby whales are born in the spring while the mother takes care of them. Another fact is when newborn whales they are 25 feet long they also drink 50 to 200 pounds of milk a day!

Characteristics They are not easily tempered. They spout water out of their blow hole. One of their defences is being big and fast. How they get food: they suck it in with their teeth called balleen, and they push the water out of their mouth through their blow holw at their top of their head. Last they swallow the krill or plankton. Their life span is 35 to 40 years.

Present They have been here sence dinosours roamed the land. They are still alive on this planet. History

Relationship to Humans They are both mamals They both have very high lactic acid buildup so we can move our muscles.. Whales have a certail kind of brain cell not seen in very many other animals
