Physical Properties There are 4 general properties for ALL matter There are 4 general properties for ALL matter  Mass,  Weight,  Volume,  Density

Mass, inertia, weight Mass- amount of matter in an object, also a measure of an objects inertia Mass- amount of matter in an object, also a measure of an objects inertia Inertia- the resistance of an object to change its motion Inertia- the resistance of an object to change its motion

Mass, inertia, weight Weight- gravitational pull on an object, changes with location Weight- gravitational pull on an object, changes with location Mass can not change unless something is removed Mass can not change unless something is removed

Mass, inertia, weight Gravity affects weight but not mass and all objects have their own gravity or ability to attract other objects even though it is weak force. Gravity affects weight but not mass and all objects have their own gravity or ability to attract other objects even though it is weak force.

Volume and Density Volume-amount of space an object takes up Volume-amount of space an object takes up Density- mass per unit of volume – used to identify types of matter Density- mass per unit of volume – used to identify types of matter D=m/v A derived unit  g/cm 3

Physical Properties There are 6 specific properties for ALL matter There are 6 specific properties for ALL matter Color, shape, odor, texture, hardness, size Color, shape, odor, texture, hardness, size

Physical Properties Not Visible physical properties are: Not Visible physical properties are: melting point, melting point, boiling point, boiling point, density, density, ability to conduct electricity and magnetism ability to conduct electricity and magnetism

Chemical properties There are 2 chemical properties There are 2 chemical properties Reactivity- how chemicals react- bp and vinegar- volcano Reactivity- how chemicals react- bp and vinegar- volcano Flammability- if substance can catch fire or not Flammability- if substance can catch fire or not
