What is the Victor Central Schools’

What is the definition of global competence?  Respect and positive attitudes for different cultures  Multidisciplinary and factual knowledge of other countries and cultures  Life and career skills and multicultural experiences

Why do I need to be globally competent?  Our interdependent 21 st century world brings with it international collaboration, increased competition and dynamic rates of change.  College requirements and the life and career skills required for today’s working world are ever changing.  In addition, the dynamic nature of technology will impact the roles of next generation workers.

What is the VCS Global Competence Certificate Program?  VCS created the Global Competence Certificate Program to recognize students for their efforts to:  Respect and appreciate different cultures  Develop life and career skills  Develop broadmindedness and objectivity  Create global awareness  Cultivate leadership skills

What will it do for me?  Enrich your resume  Give you an edge in college acceptance  Prepare you for changing college requirements  Develop necessary skills for jobs in demand  Prepare you for a global society  Understand our interdependent world

Who is eligible to participate and what do I have to do to earn the certificate?  Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to participate in the certificate program.  You must select and successfully complete at least 12 different experiences from those outlined on the GCC Experiences List over the course of their junior/senior high school career with at least 2 being classroom presentations/assignments.

What else do I have to do to earn the certificate?  Students must maintain a portfolio in order to document completion of each experience. Students should complete a Reflection Template for each experience and have each verified by a teacher/advisor.

Look for opportunities!

Other possible experiences  Travel experiences  Field trips  Guest speakers  Interactions with exchange students  Visit international businesses  International and Foreign Language Clubs  International literature and book clubs  International films, art, music and food

Travel Abroad Experiences

What is the final step to earn the certificate?  Students must present their completed portfolio to members of the GCC by the end of their junior or senior year in order to be granted the certificate.

We hope you decide to give it a try! With the world becoming increasingly interconnected, it is essential for each student to be part of a global society, starting here in Victor.
