Presentation transcript:

Writer’s Notebook Date – Title – FATPP and Personal Narrative Date and Title today’s Writer’s Notebook Entry. You will need your writer’s notebook, a highlighter or colored pencil, and your memory.

FATPP – Analyzing a writing prompt. Copy the following into your writer’s notebook. F – form (what type of writing is it?) A – audience (to whom are you writing?) T – topic (what are you writing about) P – purpose (why are you writing this? To _____) P – planning (how will I organize my writing?)

Personal Narrative Copy the following into your Writer’s Notebook – An effective Personal Narrative: - includes character, setting, and plot; it develops these elements with details - uses description and dialogue as appropriate to enhance the narrative - shows events rather than tells - has a consistent tone and point of view - shows clearly why it is important to the writer - contains a well developed beginning, middle, and end (puts events into a logical order) - considers the audience and uses appropriate language and choice of details

Personal Narrative THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR YOUR PERSONAL NARRATIVE: Establish and develop a controlling idea Develop characters and setting May include a plot (beginning, middle and end) Use descriptive words and phrases Use dialogue, as appropriate

Choose one of the following prompts to write your personal narrative. Many experiences in our lives are memorable because they force us to examine our basic beliefs and values. Tell about such an experience that allowed you to understand a life skill. We often learn a great deal from our failures. Describe a time you failed and what you learned from the experience about the importance of a life skill. How people handle a problem often reveals a lot about their character. Describe a time you encountered a difficult problem and how you solved it using life skills. When we are faced with challenges and difficult situations, we sometimes discover strengths we did not know we had. Tell about a time when you recognized a new strength in yourself.

Personal Narrative: 1.Complete the FATPP on one of the writing prompts. 2.Develop pre-writing and organize a personal narrative. TIME AND PLACE – setting!! 3.Write a rough draft in your writer’s notebook.
