Setting Just outside of Boston, Massachusetts Near a wooded swamp Importance of setting:  This swamp is the place where characters must confront the nature of their own beings and moral makeup.

Tom Walker Tom Walker symbolizes the greed of society and how easy it is for some people to succumb to temptation. The lines that show this are:  Lines  Lines

Tom Walker’s New House This symbolizes the emptiness of his life and how fake it is. The outside appears rich but the inside show that he has no substance. The line that show this are:  Lines

The Bible The bible under the mortgage papers symbolizes how money was far more important than anything else to Tom Walker. He cannot find the thing that he thinks will save him. The lines that show this are:  Lines

Storyboard Assignment You will be creating a storyboard with a minimum of six squares. Your job is to start at the beginning of the story and move to the end, recording in both words and pictures the storyline of “The Devil and Tom Walker.” Storyboard Must include:  Title with Setting (box 1)  Tom Walker (box 2)  Tom Walker’s Wife  Old Scratch  At least two symbols (explain them) Each Box Must Include:  Illustration with description/significance
