I 4 : Interoperable International Identifier Infrastructure Update on Progress Andrew Treloar/David Groenewegen

Background Workshop in Amsterdam in March 2009: draft action plan was created for Interoperable Identification Infrastructure. Post workshop: slightly updated version of the action plan put online, number of comments received – identification-infrastructure identification-infrastructure Action plan not yet updated/revised

Proposed approach Responsibility rests with Australian National Data Service (ANDS – staff: Andrew Treloar, Adrian Burtonhttp://ands.org.au/ Work collaboratively with colleagues in the UK, Europe and the US, as well as with relevant funding authorities interested in assisting ANDS may be able to fund some work on software development But other parties will need to undertake complementary work (either in data provision or software development) Considering benefits of employing a project manager based in the UK/Europe in order to minimise timezone difficulties and facilitate closer co-operation Focus initially on a subset of the activities listed in the draft action plan

Initial activities People Identifier Interoperability – enable people to create equivalence/non-equivalence assertions between a subset of their different digital identities, and to store these equivalences Object Identifier Interoperability – provide a simple queryable object equivalence service, initially at FRBR Manifestation level, later at FRBR Expression level Aim: concrete proposals ready for potential funders by August/September
