Managing Rule breaking ‘TOOL’ HEARTS & MINDS Workshops General Feedback

General feedback from the questionnaire People (PDO and Contractors) do NOT comply with the rules and procedures because they are : - Not Clear (photocopying: Contractors in particular). - Given as verbal instruction (people forget easily). - Not considering working conditions (weather, timing, food, no social life) - Too much information (Do not know which one to follow) - Not known or do not where to find rules/procedures. Feedback

Action plans to improve compliance : Not Clear (photocopying): Action - HSE advisers to ensure All rules/procedures related to the job/location are current, CLEAR and available at site.. Verbal instruction (people forget easily): Action - All work related instructions to be put in writing (or pictorial) – CSM to prepare summary of new procedures - Have a good “variance procedure”, training etc. Working conditions (weather, timing, food, no social life): Action - CSM/31 to look into this and increase awareness on social life in the interior locations via “screen savers”. Way forward

Action plans to improve compliance: Too much information (Do not know which one to follow): Action - CSM to priorities and make user friendly (pictorial) e.g. procedures (SP 2001 – Load Safety and Restraining). - CSM to remove rules that are NOT important and can’t be adhered to (e.g. dual speed governor, safety boots, Helmet “chinstrap” etc. Do not know where to find rules/procedures: Action - CSM to summaries all HSE procedures into a pocket size booklet/pop cards. - CSM to have a good “variance procedure” in place. - CSM to make “screen savers” do you know where the rules/procedures are?. Way forward
