Peering into the looking glass Hendrika Santer Bream Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

Purpose of session Bring together learning and application Generate new ideas for participants to develop capability around evaluation Share a structure for conducting peer consulting Provide an opportunity to practise consultancy skills and offer consultancy to others

Session overview Introduction Group work in triads offering each other consultancy Tea break Gather in plenary to reflect and consolidate

Type of consultancy Expert Pair of hands Collaborator Peter Block

Peer consulting activity Working in triads Roles: A is client. B&C are consultants. B is also a timekeeper Client A describes the issue. What is the question facing you now about your capability for evaluation? (5 mins) The peer consultants ask a few questions (10 mins) Client A turns away from the consultants and listens to them discussing (10 mins) A will turn back and share what insights and actions (5 mins) A will thank B & C for the support

If you would like to be a client Building on the session with Karen, what is the question facing me now about my capability for evaluation? What would I like some support on? What would I like from a peer consulting session? If you don’t have something, don’t worry, you can be a consultant

If you would like to be a consultant Go for depth rather than breadth Some questions you might ask How does this show up as an issue? How will you know this has made a difference? How do you feel about it? How will others know? What will others notice?

Advice for both Stick with the process TEA BREAK is at 2.30

Reflections For yourself What did you notice? What are you going to do as a result? When? How will you know you have done it? For your triad What feedback do you have for each other?
