TRAVEL SUGGESTIONS

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE U.S… Make sure the International Center has a photocopy of your I-20, passport, visa, and I-94 Make sure a DSO in the International Center has signed page 3 of your I-20 within the last 6 months DO NOT ask anyone other than International Center staff to sign your I-20 Ask the International Center for a letter of good standing

WHAT DOCUMENTS SHOULD I CARRY WHEN TRAVELING? HAND CARRY (DO NOT CHECK) THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS: Passport Should be valid for at least 6 more months whenever you travel to the U.S. Visa If not F-1, you need to apply for one while outside the U.S. If applying for or renewing visa, you may have to pay $100 SEVIS fee.

What Documents Should I Carry? (continued)  Hand-carry (do not check) the following: I-20 Should have a DSO’s travel signature on Page 3 within last 6 months. Check end date in Item 5; does it need to be extended? I-94 (should indicate D/S) Financial support documents (recent-within last 6 months) Evidence of student status: Unofficial transcript (up-to-date) Student schedule for next semester (or other evidence of pre- registration) Letter of acceptance Letter of good standing (from International Center) Receipt showing payment of SEVIS fee Immigration Advisor’s business card (call this person if you have problems while travelling)

What if I Have a Problem?  Immediately contact the International Center at (704)  Ask immigration officials if they will discuss your situation with us.  Contacting any other office on campus wastes valuable time we may need to discuss your situation with immigration officials.

ONCE YOU ARRIVE BACK IN THE U.S.  Report to the International Center so that we can register your participation in SEVIS  If you renewed your passport while traveling, bring it with you so we can get a photocopy  Report any change of address immediately  Report any change of program immediately  Report any change in name immediately

TRAVELING INSIDE THE U.S.  If traveling within your local community, you MUST carry the following:  I-20 (suggest a photocopy to avoid losing original)  Passport (suggest a photocopy to avoid losing original)  If traveling outside your local community, you MUST carry the following:  I-20 (original)  Passport  Visa (F-1)  I-94

THANK YOU HAVE A SAFE TRIP!
