Types Of Maps

Political Maps Show features humans have made (cities, states, provinces, etc.). Indicate state and national boundaries Label capital and major cities. A capital city is usually marked with a star within a circle.

Physical Maps Illustrate the physical features of an area, such as the mountains, rivers and lakes. The water is shown in blue. Colors are used to show relief (differences in land elevations.)

Thematic Maps Convey specific ideas Are used for a variety of information (Climate, vegetation, natural resources, population, economics, etc.) Presented in several ways (Qualitative Maps, Cartograms, and Flow-line Maps)
