 One of the main objectives of Global Relations is to develop your ability to apply the concepts and principles of American foreign policy to the daily flow of events and to specific foreign policy issues.  Working with other classmates in a group, you will create a presentation about one contemporary foreign policy challenge.

 Choose a topic!  You will work in groups to identify a specific foreign policy challenge ▪ Lets look at some! Lets look at some!

Explanation of the issue  What is the historical background of the issue? ▪ What are the causes of the issue? ▪ What are the effects of this issue on those involved?  What is the chronology of events surrounding the issue?  Who are the key actors and how are they involved in the issue? ▪ Specific individuals ▪ Specific states and non-state actors ▪ Specific international organizations/agencies  What, if anything, has the U.S. done in response to this issue? The international community?

Analysis of the issue  Why is this a foreign policy concern for the US? ▪ How does this issue align with the US national interests?  What's at stake for the world? ▪ How and to what extent are the actors described above affected?

 Annotated bibliographies are due on _______.  BIB REQUIREMENTS:  MLA format, 12 point Times New Roman font, Use Noodles.  Minimum of three annotated sources not used by another member of your group. (So a group of four will have 12 total sources!)  Two paragraphs : 1. Summary (Major topics covered/conclusions) 2. Evaluation and Reflection (Reliable source? Bias? How did source contribute to your research?)  NOTE: For a score of “Advanced” on your bibliography your annotations must be “comprehensive, detailed, and insightful” and you must exceed the required number of three annotated sources.

 Construct a typed backgrounder that does not exceed two pages, succinctly addresses each of the content requirements above, uses in text citations and includes an MLA formatted works cited of all sources used by the group.  For examples of a "Backgrounder" consider the Council on Foreign Relations (Publications--> Backgrounders)
