Top 3 Careers Game Designer Computer Programmer Graphic Designer

Game Designer My #1 career is to become a Game Designer. Its career cluster was in Information Technology. Below is a great example of how good graphics have become:

Introduction Video game designers can make anything from $40,000 to $225,000 a year. College can take from 2-4 years depending on what company you want to work for.

Career Cluster Game Designer came out of the cluster Information Technology. If I wanted to be a game designer I had to ask myself the following questions: Do I enjoy working with computers? Am I fascinated by technology? Am I a logical and mathematical learner?

Nature of Work The nature of work can change from the company you work for but many companies have you work with a team of designers.

Working Conditions Working area: Normally an office or cubicle. Average Work week: hours a week. Crunch time: about 2 weeks before a game is released designers may have to work hours a week to finish, test and play video games.

Job Outlook/Employment The job growth is expected to continue to grow. The job employment rate is estimated to rise from 10,000 jobs to 34,000 from now to 2020.

Training, Qualifications, Advancement The training you will need is Computer Science and Computer Programming. You will need a bachelors degree to get a job as a game designer. If you go from a C+ designer to a C++ you will have to relearn everything differently and it will take months.

Earnings Most video game designers make about $40,000-$50,000 a year. Experienced designers can make from $55,000-$75,000 a year.

Salary Comparison Game designers make about $40,000-$50,000 a year. Graphic designers make about $20,000-$40,000 a year. Computer programmers make about $40,000-$70,000 a year. The highest paying job is computer programmer, but I would still rather be a game designer.

Backup Plan: My backup plan would be to become a Computer Programmer, because it is almost the same college and I would only have to go to school for one or two more years. Computer Programmers can make $20,000 more than game designers. My secondary backup plan would be to become a graphic designer but I would have to go through school again and I would make $40,000 less than a game designer.

Summary My top three careers have close pay ranges and have almost the same college classes and same degrees.
