Forming the basis for studies is a harmonised blocking time model of the type prescribed in UIC Leaflet 406. The ETCS L1 system operating with one or two optimally positioned infill balises is almost as efficient as a system with continuous information transmission. short infill loops in addition to infill balises are virtually equal with total infill in their effect on capacity.
